If you love indie music like I do, you know very well that there have been some exceptional musical debuts over the course of the last two years. We'll be including music from 2008 and 2009 here, and narrowing it down to the three that I'm going to mention will be a difficult task.
While I could easily name 15 or 20 great debuts during the last two years, I'm only going to focus on three during this article. This will require a lot of thought, since so many albums are worthy of mention here.
I'll be trying my best to choose the elite three that make the cut in my mind. These are all phenomenal albums that you'll definitely take a liking to if you're into the indie rock scene.
I can remember the first time I heard For Emma, Forever Ago by Bon Iver. This was one of those albums that made an immediate impact when I first heard it, and well over a year later I'm still listening to this album regularly.
This is an album that consists of some great songs from beginning to end. Standout tracks like "Flume", "Skinny Love", and others quickly became indie rock staples after the album was released.
If you haven't heard Vampire Weekend's self titled debut album, I'd suggest doing so right away. The release is over a year old at this point, but it's one of the best and most innovative albums I've heard in recent memory. This is a must listen if you're unfamiliar with the band's work.
Lastly, Fleet Foxes came out with a debut in 2008 that was exceptional. The best way to describe the band's music is a mix of bluegrass, indie rock, and barber shop quartet. I know that's hard to explain, but their rich melodies will pull you in on first listen.
These are all instant classics in my mind, and worthy of repeated listens. - 29772
