Unless you've been living under a rock, you've seen or heard about Kanye West gatecrashing the stage during this years MTV video awards whilst Taylor Swift was making her acceptance speech.
Now I'm no fan of Taylor (or the MTV video awards for that matter), but come on - it was her big moment. Have we lost all respect and decorum as a society? Seems that way, just take a look through the lyrics of a few Kanye West songs. Having already done that myself, and ruined my appetite for the day, I really don't think it's that out of character for him.
Which brings me to another point - why does pop music have to be so freakin' lifeless? Most of the stuff in the charts is just crap icing on top of crap cake. These days I just can't be bothered with pop music. It's an unfortunate reflection on us when we don't even care to think beyond the shallowest levels in anything that we do. All most people want is pithy, nonsensical platitudes in our music and quick pop psychology fixes until the end of their days.
Yet that's another tangent altogether, so let's get back to Kanye the moronic egomaniac. Should we be surprised? No. In a world where idiocy is rewarded with airplay and publicity, we'll continue to get more of the same. Everybody wants their five minutes of fame even if it's at the expense of someone, anyone (or everyone) else. Why should we even care what these people say, sing or think about? Do they have any qualifications that would make me want to value their opinion?
Of course, the same is true here - who cares what I say or do? Who I am to be giving my opinion?? Well, any ideas that present themselves in my little brain tend to find themselves emerging as a rant or rave - even if I'm not particularly qualified to comment on the issue.
Maybe I should start writing pop music...
